Frequently Asked Questions
What is the "Abide in Me" 40-Day Fast?
The fast is a collective family journey dedicated to prayer, fasting, and spiritual growth. The initiative is rooted in the biblical principles of John 15 and focuses on staying deeply connected to Christ so we can naturally bear fruit that refreshes and blesses others.
When does the fast take place?
The 40 days run from October 4 through November 12.
Why are we fasting?
Fasting serves as a conscious choice to reset our spiritual appetites. It clears out worldly distractions to make more room for God in our lives. The practice lives out the church's core values to follow Jesus, be transformed by Jesus, and multiply disciples for Jesus.
Do I need to come to the church building to participate?
No. You do not have to come to church to participate in the fast. You can complete your fast, pray, and engage in your daily rhythms from home, work, or anywhere else you choose.
How do I participate in a 24-hour fast?
A 24-hour food fast simply means missing a couple of meals, such as eating dinner at 7 PM and not eating again until dinner at 7 PM the next night. You can choose a regular fast consisting of only water, or a partial fast utilizing water and broth. Instead of eating, use that open space during natural mealtimes to draw near to the Lord through prayer, worship, reading the Word, journaling, community, or serving others.
What if I cannot fast from food due to medical reasons?
Individuals with health concerns, such as expectant mothers, diabetics, or those on certain medications, are encouraged to check with their doctor and may need to skip fasting from food completely. If you cannot fast from food, you can still participate by fasting from something else that fills your time and attention, such as television, your phone, or social media.
Is there a daily routine I should follow?
Families are asked to commit to a daily 10-minute "Abide in Me" rhythm.
This baseline includes:
Taking about two minutes to be still, silence devices, and pause to connect with God.
Spending five minutes on a truth affirmation by reading the assigned daily scripture and speaking a reminder of your connection to the Vine.
Dedicating three minutes to prayer to commit your day to the Holy Spirit's guidance without treating it as a stressful checklist.
