Day 12: Created Anew for Good Works
Psalm 1:1-3
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
Devotion
We often look at fasting as a season of intense, exhausting effort where we force ourselves to be strong. But Psalm 1 gives us a completely different picture of spiritual resilience: it describes a tree that thrives because of its location, not its effort. The tree doesn’t stress out during a drought; it flourishes simply because its roots are buried deep in a constant, hidden water source. As you meditate on His truth during this quiet time, remember that abiding is a passive drawing of life. You don’t have to manufacture prosperity or growth today—just drink deeply from the Stream, and He will ensure you bear fruit in the right season. You are created anew in Christ Jesus unto good works. Whatever God creates is exquisitely suited to its end, just as the sun is perfectly fitted to give light.
The Daily 10-Minute 'Abide in Me' Rhythm
Commit to establishing this strategic baseline rhythm together as a family every day:
Be Still (~2 Min): Take a moment to quiet your thoughts and still your mind. Silence your devices and allow yourself to pause, embracing the awe of God's majesty. It's a chance to breathe, reflect, and connect with Him.
Truth Affirmation (~5 Min): Read the scripture assigned for today. As you reflect on it, gently say aloud: 'Jesus, You are the Vine, and I am a branch. In this moment, I choose to embrace where You have placed me, trusting in Your guidance and care.'
Prayer (~3 Min): Do not burden yourself with a stressful checklist. Instead, take a moment to commit your day to the Holy Spirit. Trust in His gentle guidance; He will lead you in a way that feels reassuring. You're not alone in this journey.5
