Day 6: Jesus as Your Complete Source
1 Corinthians 1:30
30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
Devotion
During a fast, it is incredibly easy for our spiritual pride to flare up. When we successfully skip a meal or step away from screens, our independent logic tries to take the credit. We start to feel like "super-Christians" who are achieving holiness through our own impressive willpower. But 1 Corinthians 1:30 completely levels the playing field, cutting through any temptation to boast.
Paul reminds us of a blunt reality: the only reason you are even in Christ Jesus is because of God.
You didn't graft yourself into the Vine; the Master Gardener did it all. Fasting isn't a tool to make yourself look spiritual, nor is it a self-help routine to prove how disciplined you are. If you find wisdom, experience holiness, or break free from an old habit during this quiet time, it isn't because you mastered the art of fasting. It is because Jesus is your wisdom, holiness, and redemption.
When your stomach growls or the craving for background noise kicks in, let it serve as a physical reminder of your absolute dependence. Fasting strips away our self-made comfort blankets so we can see that we have zero bragging rights. We don't have to carry the pressure of creating a breakthrough during this fast. We can simply rest, knowing that every ounce of spiritual success belongs to Him, and He has already given us everything we need in Jesus.
The Daily 10-Minute 'Abide in Me' Rhythm
Commit to establishing this strategic baseline rhythm together as a family every day:
Be Still (~2 Min): Take a moment to quiet your thoughts and still your mind. Silence your devices and allow yourself to pause, embracing the awe of God's majesty. It's a chance to breathe, reflect, and connect with Him.
Truth Affirmation (~5 Min): Read the scripture assigned for today. As you reflect on it, gently say aloud: 'Jesus, You are the Vine, and I am a branch. In this moment, I choose to embrace where You have placed me, trusting in Your guidance and care.'
Prayer (~3 Min): Do not burden yourself with a stressful checklist. Instead, take a moment to commit your day to the Holy Spirit. Trust in His gentle guidance; He will lead you in a way that feels reassuring. You're not alone in this journey.
